July 2009 was the hottest month ever recorded in the histories of both Easterwood Airport and the city of College Station, with records dating back to the 1890s. The month featured 23 of the 31 days topping the 100°F-mark for a high temperature, with an average high for the month of 100.7°F. Amazingly, more than half of the 31 days set or tied records for having the warmest minimum temperature on that date, with the mercury failing to dip below 80 degrees on 15 mornings during this past month. Only the 17th, 21st, 30th, and 31st did not set or come close to breaking a high or low temperature record. Most of the Brazos Valley is in a historically severe drought, and July did bring a little relief from the dry conditions, though it barely put a dent in the long-term drought conditions. A record-tying 56 days without measurable precipitation at Easterwood Airport came to a screeching halt with a vicious storm that parked itself right on top of the Bryan/College Station vicinity for several hours on the 19th. The storm brought 2.00" of precipitation and several reports of wind damage and large hail.
