July 2010

Print Email

July 2010 was not nearly as warm as July of last year, which was the hottest month ever recorded in the histories of both Easterwood Airport and the city of College Station. The temperature failed to reach 100°F during the entire month (compared to 23 days in July 29). Thought the mean average temperature for the month was slightly above normal, the average maximum temperature was 1.5°F below normal. However, the monthly average minimum temperature was nearly three degrees above average with four records for highest daily minimum were tied during the month. Low temperatures were consistently in the middle to upper 70s as a humid air mass was in place for most of the month. The abundance of moisture in the air did not translate into a great deal of precipitation, as only 1.23" fell during the month, about two-thirds of normal. However, College Station was an anomaly compared to most of Central and Southeast Texas, with most areas receiving well above normal precipitation. The 24-hour maximum occurred during the first two days of the month in association with the remnants of Hurricane Alex, which came onshore on the northern Mexico Gulf Coast. The rainfall deficit this month left the year-to-date precipitation deficit of 0.80".
