March 2009

Print Email

Remarkably, College Station remained relatively close to normal temperature throughout March. With an extensive range of high temperatures, from 43°F to 86°F, March has been a month of transition for the area. The first part of the month was cooled from a remnant cold front from late February. Temperatures then remained very high, peaking on the 10th when average temperatures were almost 18°F above normal. A strong cold front then dropped high temperatures to the lower 40s to lower 50s for several days. Temperatures remained slightly above average following this period and increased until a few weaker cold fronts (and rainy days) kept temperatures below average. For the first time since August of 2008, College Station has recorded above normal monthly precipitation. In fact, College Station has received over 2" more than usual for March. Although this cannot break the drought in College Station, this rainfall has given needed moisture to local farmers. Though College Station still remains more than two inches below average for the year, the area has gained (and greened) lost ground.
