Print Email

March 2011 continued a string of months where precipitation amounts were much below normal levels in College Station. Only 0.69" of March precipitation fell, which brought the year-to-date deficit to 4.25", about half of the normal January-March precipitation in College Station. More than half of the month’s precipitation (0.38") fell on the 5th. By the end of March most of the Brazos Valley, including Bryan/College Station, was designated as having extreme drought (D3) by the US Drought Monitor. After an extremely cold February, which saw perhaps the coldest stretch of weather in College Station in several years, the mean temperature in March was more than 4°F above normal. This included a very Spring Break-like stretch days from the 17th-26th, during which the maximum temperature exceeded 80°F each day. Additionally, four records for highest maximum temperature were broken during this period, including a maximum temperature of 89°F on the 26th.
