November 2010

Print Email

La Nina was in full swing in College Station during the month of November and precipitation in the area was below normal, and for much of the month temperatures were above normal. The November maximum temperature reached 86°F on 3 occasions throughout the month, including new record for highest maximum temperature on the 23rd. The rest of the month, maximum temperatures oscillated from the low 60s to the upper 80s. Autumn seemed to finally come to the Brazos Valley on the 14th, and after an Indian summer, again on 26th, with temperatures on each day failing to reach 60°F. The month’s lowest minimum temperature was 29°F and was recorded on the 27th. The 27th was the only day that daily minimum temperatures actually fell below the freezing mark but on 6th, 19th, 26th, 28th and 30th the nighttime temperature hovered around the freezing line. Although there were more than ten rain days this month, precipitation as a monthly total was well below normal. A general lack of rain, low humidity levels, and stronger winds during the month forced the Brazos Valley Commissioners Court to place a burn ban on Brazos County on November 30th. The burn ban is expected to remain in effect for 30 days. Drought is still a concern in the College Station area and as of the end of November, Brazos County was designated as having moderate drought conditions by the United States Drought Monitor.
