College Station Monthly Summary: April 2004

The Brazos Valley experienced a wide range of temperatures in the month of April. A late season cold front on Easter weekend dropped temperatures 22°F from the previous day with a high of only 57°F. Yet, in three days, temperatures rebounded back into the upper 70s. Toward the middle and end of the month, numerous upper level disturbances traveled across the state leaving heavy rainfall and thunderstorm activity in their wake. On the 10th and 11th, 0.60" and 0.29" of precipitation fell respectively. Numerous hail and high wind reports were made on the 10th as a result of the incoming cold front. Just to the north of College Station in Hearne in Robertson County, high winds were reported on the 10th when trees were reportedly blown down onto power lines. Severe weather reports were also made in Burleson County. Heavy rainfall was reported on the 24th and 25th, with a 2-day total of 2.48" due to an approaching cold front that was much weaker than the mid-month cold blast. The month of April concluded with temperatures mild, and in the 80s, and with above normal precipitation of 4.20", a departure from normal of exactly an inch.
