College Station Monthly Summary: April 2005

The month of April was much drier and cooler than normal for the Brazos Valley. The month began with warming temperatures as a high pressure system dominated the entire state. College Station received 0.94" of rain on the 4th due to a weak cold front that moved across the state. This would be almost 75 percent of the rain for all of April. Temperatures warmed to the 80s before another week cold front moved through on the 10th. For the week that followed, temperatures stayed consistently in the upper 70s and low 80s as a high pressure system settled over the area. Another weak cold front pushed through on the 19th giving way to a significant warm up during the third week of the month. A stronger cold front passed through on the 23rd, and a new record low of 44°F was set on the 24th. Temperatures quickly warmed up, though, and the monthly maximum of 88°F was set on the 28th. One last cold front moved through on the 30th cooling temperatures down as May began. For the month, College Station received only 1.25" of rain, almost 2" below normal. Despite the dry month, the area is still more than 2" above normal for all of 2005.
