College Station Monthly Summary: April 1997

April was a much cooler month than normal in College Station. In fact, we tied a record this year for the coldest mean monthly temperature ever recorded in April (sharing the honor now with 1973). This cold stretch caused two records to be broken for the lowest maximum temperature on the 26th and 27th. This last week of April also yielded some heavy amounts of precipitation. Nearly two inches of rain fell on the 25th from very strong thunderstorms, and the rain continued on the 26th and 27th as a front moved through the Brazos Valley. Once again this year, the monthly precipitation was greater than normal, bringing the total for 1997 to 14.21". The yearly total through April is nearly three inches above normal.
