College Station Monthly Summary: August 2009

August 2009 continued the pattern of hot and dry weather in College Station, worsening a drought that was already classified as extreme at the beginning of the month. Fortunately, the above normal temperatures were not quite as extreme as the record setting temperatures in July, but August did begin with 26 consecutive days of above normal temperatures. No daily records were set for high temperatures, but several records were either tied or broken for warmest daily low temperatures on record. Overall, 19 days were above 100°F, but the end of the month brought cooler weather thanks to a stationary front that lingered over the area for several days. Though rainfall amount were not particularly impressive, any precipitation was much needed and helped cool temperatures down to more seasonable levels.
