College Station Monthly Summary: December 2008

December 2008 in College Station came with a few surprises. Total Precipitation was quite low for the month, with only 0.80" recorded for the month and no single day reporting more than a quarter of an inch. This follows the pattern statewide, where drought problems have been present throughout 2008. For the year, the area is almost 9" below its normal precipitation total. However, College Station residents found a white Dec. 10 morning, where 2" of snow were recorded in some places. Along with the cool to utterly cold weather throughout the month, very warm temperatures persisted, making the choice of wardrobe quite difficult at times! Several near record warm temperatures were recorded for the month, especially seen in the record broken on the 26th, where the minimum temperature reached no lower than 70°F. This shattered the previous record by 7°F! Despite some unusually warm temperatures mixed with some cooler than average temperatures, the monthly average temperature remained around normal. Gusty winds were almost the norm, as several cold fronts pushed their way through the area.
