College Station Monthly Summary: February 2006

This February saw the return of cold weather, and for that matter, precipitation to the Bryan/College Station area. The month started off with record setting rainfall, totaling 2.11" on the 1st, which was a daily record and represented 88 percent of the normal rainfall total for the month (2.38"). More rainfall and colder temperatures reached the Brazos Valley on the 10th. Average temperatures were 14°F below normal on the 11th and the lowest temperature of the month was set on the morning of the 12th at 26°F. In the three day period after the cold front, the 11th, 12th, and 13th, the average departure from normal was 11°F below normal. Temperatures increased on the 15th and 16th as an approaching front triggered warm south winds. The cold front brought very cold temperatures and winter precipitation along with it. Light snow was reported in College Station on the 18th. The 19th reported a high temperature of 36°F, which was a record low maximum for the day. The highest temperature of the month was recorded on the 16th at 79°F. Precipitation for the month was 1.32" above average, the first above average monthly rainfall total since August 2005. The rainfall was concentrated on three days, the 1st, 10th, and 25th, with those three days accounted for 96 percent of the month's total rainfall.
