College Station Monthly Summary: February 2009

February 2009 was very warm, with average monthly temperatures almost 6°F warmer than normal. Very early in the month, temperatures were around normal, with mild temperatures during the day and relatively cool temperatures at night. However, 11 of the 28 days in the month reached a mean temperature of at least 9.5°F above normal; in particular, 6 of those 11 days reached at least 15°F above the normal mean daily temperature. A cool front dropped temperatures in the latter part of the month to roughly normal temperatures, though 4 of the last 5 days of the month reached at least 80°F. Like most of Texas, College Station has received little rainfall over the past month, with less than three quarters of an inch recorded for the entire month. The area's "largest" rain came when a line of severe weather raced through, leaving a concert of thunder but only 0.30" of rain. However, forecasts project that the La Nina which has caused much of the warm, dry weather could dissipate and bring more normal conditions to Texas.
