College Station Monthly Summary: February 2010

February 2010 was one for the record books as College Station experienced its coldest winter since 1978. The average maximum temperature this month was the 3rd lowest the Brazos Valley has seen in the past 105 Februarys. Also, the average temperature was the 4th lowest since 1905 at 48.5°F, 6.9°F below normal. With the exception of three days, the daily mean temperature was below normal every day this month. On the 12th, a new record low maximum temperature record was set at 38°F, breaking the old record set back in 1963. Even though it was a very cold month, the maximum temperature for the month reached into the upper 70s, topping out at 78°F on the 21st. Snowfall and rainfall were no strangers to the Brazos Valley this month. 2.77" of total precipitation fell during this past February, 0.39" above normal, and brought the annual total to 5.71". For the month, College Station had 9 days of precipitation, including 2 days with measurable snowfall. On February 11th, College Station received wet snow totaling to two-tenths of an inch in under an hour. A low pressure area brought snow to Central Texas on the 23rd, including 3.0" to Easterwood Airport, and transformed the Brazos Valley into a winter wonderland.
