College Station Monthly Summary: February 2014

Thanks to several high powered cold fronts the month of February was much cooler than normal. Unfortunately the fronts did not bring as much rainfall as would have been liked, and College Station ended the month nearly two inches below normal. Most of the precipitation that did fall came after cold front passage when warm air would rise above the front, become saturated, and rain out. This came steady but light rainfall, and with the cold temperatures did leave icy conditions on some roadways in and around the Brazos Valley such as on February 6th and 11th. Ice accumulations were light and most melted off before the afternoon hours, but it was enough to cause some school delays and traffic issues. At the beginning of the month the Brazos Valley was not included in any drought situation, but by the end of the month the area was added to moderate drought conditions.
