College Station Monthly Summary: July 2011

College Station earned its stripes for surviving a sweltering hot July 2011. The average maximum temperature was 99.9°F, just a tenth of a degree below 100°F. In fact, only two days ever dipped below 98°F for the high, and those two days still managed to stay above 90°F. Eighteen days saw triple digit heat, and 103°F went down as the highest maximum temperature for July 2011, recorded three times during the month. While the daytime temperatures were blistering, the nighttime temperatures were also above normal. With an average low of 77.2°F, nighttime lows were 3.6°F warmer than normal and the overall average temperature was 4°F warmer than normal at 88.6°F. The toasty temperatures set or tied eleven highest maximum or minimum records, and set or tied twenty-two highest maximum or minimum near records for the month. On the flip side, rainfall did not quite measure up to College Station’s needs during July 2011. Only two days saw measurable precipitation, and they summed up to just a tenth of an inch (0.10”). Easterwood Field experienced almost 2” less than the normal rainfall for July and finished 11.87” below normal for the year. With the lack of rain, all of Brazos County maintained its D4 designation of an “Exceptional Drought”.
