College Station Monthly Summary: March 2012

March was very warm in College Station with average temperatures nearly 6 degrees above normal, while several daily temperature records were approaced in the unseasonable heat. March 2012 will also go into the record books as the wettest March on record with 6.66” of rain recorded. Half of this rain came on two dates, the first on the 20th when a slow moving lower level system rolled across the state breaking the daily precipitation record for the month of March. This same system caused flooding all across the state, while in northern Brazos County the Navasota River crested two feet below major flood stage. The second event occurred on the 28th where 2.17” fell in College Station. For the first time since October 2010 Brazos County dropped completely out of any form of drought according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.
