College Station Monthly Summary: May 2000

May signaled a return to warm temperatures for the Brazos Valley, with the average temperature for the month was 3.1°F above normal and 90°F mark reached or topped 11 times. May was not a dry month though, with Easterwood Airport recording 5.57" of rain, 0.77" above normal. However, this was not enough to bring the year-to-date precipitation to its normal amount. The month began with relatively cool temperatures and rainy conditions as a low pressure system moved across the state, exiting on the 3rd. This system dumped 3.85" of rain on Bryan/College Station, the majority of the monthly total. On the 12th-13th, a Pacific cold front moved through the area, bringing rain and cooling temperatures after a brief warm spell. Another cold front moved through on the 19th-20th, once again cooling temperatures. The month closed with a warm spell, as eight of the last ten days reached 90°F or above.
