College Station Monthly Summary: May 2012

Compared to 2011, May 2012 in College Station was a mild one. Overall, temperatures were a couple of degrees above average for the month. College Station experienced its first drier month of 2012 with a total of 1.82" of rainfall, two-and-a-half inches below the monthly average. On the evening of the 7th, an intense dry line passed through the city, encouraging a maximum wind gust of 43mph. Rain accompanied the dry line as clusters of storms traveled through the Brazos Valley. However, the cold front followed through a couple of days later and brought substantial rain along as well, just in time for Texas A&M's commencement ceremonies. On the 15th, forecasters confirmed another cold front, and they believed it could be the last frontal system before summer. However, everyone was surprised when a mild cold front passed through on May 31. Each of these systems brought some precipitation, and the yearly rainfall average was kept at 6.89" above normal.
