College Station Monthly Summary: November 1998

November began with a frontal system passing over the region on the 1st, triggering precipitation over the Brazos Valley and dropped 0.55" of rain at Easterwood Field. Cooler air that was located behind the front caused temperature readings to stay below normal for most of the next week all throughout the Bryan/College Station area. From the 12th to the 15th a front along the Texas coast helped push extremely moist Gulf air over Southeast Texas. 5.03" of rain were recorded at Easterwood Field during this 4 day period alone. During the 2nd half of the November with a high pressure becoming a fixture in the Southeast United States, the cooler air masses were kept well to the north of the Brazos Valley allowing temperatures to once again climb to above normal values. During the last 8 days of the month the average daily temperatures were between 8 and 17 degrees above normal. On the 29th, the highest maximum daily temperature record was broken when the mercury rose to 81°F. This weather pattern also kept the Brazos Valley dry, with only 0.08" of precipitation reaching the ground from the 16th to the 30th.
