College Station Monthly Summary: October 2000

The month of October continued the warm trend established at the beginning of the summer in the Brazos Valley area. The mean monthly temperature of 72.0°F was 2.6°F above normal, and for the first five days of the month, temperatures were in the lower to middle 90s. Despite having 13 days with measurable precipitation, rainfall was slightly below normal, making October the fifth consecutive month with below normal precipitation. On the 6th, a strong continental cold front moved through the area, triggering much needed precipitation and dropping temperatures significantly. On the 8th and 9th, high temperatures barely broke the 50°F mark. However, temperatures soon rose back into the 80s, and remained there for the rest of the month. On the 16th and 17th, a weak cold front pushed into Texas, triggering more precipitation in the Bryan/College Station area, although not dropping temperatures significantly.
