College Station Monthly Summary: September 2002

College Station finished the month of September with an average maximum temperature that was 0.5°F below normal. This could be partly attributed to rain-cooled air temperatures on the 15th and 16th, and the passage of one of the first cold fronts of the fall season on the 19th. The cold front brought temperatures to slightly below normal for a few days before moderating. One record and three near records occurred during the month. Very little precipitation fell in September, as Easterwood Airport reported only 0.77" of rain. The 24-hour maximum rainfall occurred on the 7th, with 0.28". The year-to-date rainfall deficit in the College Station area now stands at 9.55" below normal, with the rainfall deficit in September alone at over three inches. This month also had close calls with tropical systems Fay and Isidore. We did not feel the direct impact of Isidore, but did receive 0.48" of rain over the course of the 7th through the 9th as a result of Tropical Storm Fay, which made landfall on the 7th near Galveston.
