College Station Monthly Summary: September 2008

September 2008 in College Station began with excitement and some fear in the air, as Hurricane Ike loomed in the Gulf waiting to strike the coast. College Station was spared from much damaging wind, with one of the lowest peak gusts of the surrounding counties at 49 mph. The city received basically all of its rainfall for September from Ike as the last half of the month has brought clear skies for the most part. Temperatures have been slightly cooler than average. A cold front that helped steer Ike northward kept maximum temperatures in the upper 70s for 4 straight days. These temperatures were near record low maximum temperatures, with the high of 74°F on the 15th being a record low maximum temperature. Otherwise, temperatures remained around average in the upper 80s but were more variable during the latter parts of September. Overall, except perhaps for Ike's destruction elsewhere, it has been a pleasant month.
