College Station Monthly Summary: April 1999

Temperatures were slightly above normal in the Brazos Valley for the month of April, and the 15th through the 18th was the only period where temperatures were seen to be significantly below normal. There were a total of 6 rain days during the month, and the precipitation total of only 2.54" was 0.84" below normal for April. Most of the month's precipitation was received on the 14th and 26th when 0.95" and 1.45" of rain were recorded at Easterwood Field. During the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 14th a passing low pressure system triggered thunderstorms across the area. Cooler air swept through the region after the passage of the low pressure system dropping the temperature readings below normal for 4 days. The 17th actually saw the lowest minimum temperature ever recorded for that day with a reading of 36°F. A similar situation occurred on the 26th with nearly an inch and a half of rain falling on the Brazos Valley. Dime to nickel size hail was also reported in Bryan/College Station on the 26th as the thunderstorms passed overhead. Temperatures however remained above normal after the system cleared the area.
