College Station Monthly Summary: December 2005

This December proved to have little relief of the dry conditions that continue to plaque the Brazos Valley and the entire state. The official monthly total of 1.00" made this December the 10th driest December in history (driest was 0.10" in 1950). The yearly total was 26.44", which is 13.23" below normal. In total for the year there were five months in which the precipitation was above average (January, February, March, July, and August). Beginning on the 1st of September, a total of only 4.11" of precipitation has fallen in College Station, a deficit of 10.43" in a four-month span. This December was slightly cooler than normal with a monthly mean temperature of 51.1°F, which is 1.1°F below normal. The month started out very warm with the mean temperature on the 3rd 21°F above normal, but a strong cold front brought much colder temperature with the mean temperature on the 8th, 26°F below normal. The precipitation that fell on the 7th became freezing rain and covered much of the Brazos Valley in a thin coat of ice, but as the month progressed it became much warmer. Highs of 78°F and 77°F were experienced on the 26th and 27th, respectively.
