College Station Monthly Summary: January 2012

January 2012 was fairly uneventful for College Station. With above average temperatures for the majority of January, Bryan/College Station residents longed for cooler winter temperatures. Extraordinarily, there were only three nights that dropped below freezing, and on the 22nd, the daily high temperature almost broke 80°F! Daily maximum temperatures and nighttime minimum temperatures were well above normal by three or more degrees. Essentially, Autumn became Spring as Winter was completely cut out of the picture. After the start of January, a cold front nudged its way through Texas and moisture ventured north from the Gulf to provide light precipitation in College Station. However, a much larger storm system trundled through on the 24th and produced over two inches of rain over the following twenty-four hours. On the 24th and 25th, 2.14" of rain was measured and some lower-lying areas of College Station experienced minor flooding.
