College Station Monthly Summary: July 2006

July 2006 started off much cooler and wetter than normal. The average departure from the normal mean temperature for the first nine days was -3°F, and precipitation during that period totaled 3.73", nearly twice the normal July total of 1.92". While most of the nation was suffering from an extreme heat way, the Brazos Valley was right around normal, with the highest departure from the normal mean temperature at +4°F on the 18th. Overall, the mean temperature for the month was 0.9°F below normal at 83.7°F. The mean maximum temperature was 92.7°F, 2.9°F below normal while the mean minimum temperature was 1.2°F above average at 74.8°F. Temperature-wise, the month of July 2006 was fairly average, though precipitation in the area was not. The monthly total of 5.74" is the highest monthly total this year, during a month that normally yields the lowest yearly total. Yearly precipitation totals were below average until this month, which brought the yearly total to 25.33", 2.83" above normal. Thanks to some tropical systems this July proved to be a wet month, giving the area some much needed drought relief.
