College Station Monthly Summary: May 2013

This was a cool and wet month for College Station with over 1.5 times normal precipitation falling and temperatures slightly cooler than normal. The majority of the rain that fell came during an event from May 9th to the 10th when a low pressure system centered near Corpus Christi slowly moved off to the east drawing up plenty of moisture into the area while divergence aloft set the stage for impressive rainfall amounts across the Brazos Valley. Record or near record low temperatures were recorded at the beginning of the month when the jet stream arcing into Canada shot down extremely cold air into the area breaking a standing 50 year record low. With the excess of precipitation for the month, Brazos County was downgraded from Severe to Moderate drought from the beginning to the end of the month.
