College Station Monthly Summary: September 2004

September was quite different from the rest of 2004 for the Brazos Valley as temperatures soared and rainfall was minimal. The month began with cool temperatures - the lingering effects of a cold front that had just passed over Texas. Temperatures began to warm up on the 4th, but Gulf moisture brought some scattered showers to College Station. The 0.13" on the 4th would end up being the 24-hour maximum for the entire month. Another cold front on the 7th brought minimal rainfall, and temperatures dropped to well below normal for a few days. A high pressure system then settled over Texas, and the weather was very warm and dry for several days. On the 17th, College Station reached its highest temperature to date for 2004 at 99°F. September left a good chance that this will be the 12th time in College Station history that the temperature does not reach 100°F in a calendar year. Temperatures cooled some on the 23rd as the remnants of Tropical Storm Ivan brought a small amount of rain to the area. The month ended with warm temperatures and beautiful skies. For the entire month, Easterwood Field recorded only 0.26" of rain making this the 2nd driest September ever in College Station.
