Climate in the News:
As we mentioned last week, drought conditions have continuously been improving across our state. The eastern half of Texas along with the Panhandle is expected to receive some precipitation in the next 7 days, with some of these areas still suffering from extreme and exceptional drought conditions. Weather Synopsis:
Last week was quiet for most of its duration due to persistent high pressure over the state. On Friday, a cold front moved through the state bringing with it slightly cooler temperatures as well as some thunderstorms. Below is a surface analysis from November 17 at 9am depicting the low pressure center along with the cold front that impacted the state.

Temperature:
Most of the temperature averages were between 55 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit last week. The warmest portions had temperatures above 65 degrees with the highest average recorded at 67.3 degrees in Cameron County. The coldest areas of the state had averages near 50 degrees with the coolest weekly average recorded at 50.1 degrees in Dallam County. Overall, temperatures were +/3 degrees of normal across Texas with some anomalies reaching 5-7 degrees above normal in the Panhandle and Far West Texas.
Precipitation:
Roughly half of the state saw rainfall this past week. Rain accumulations were moderate with many areas seeing above an inch in total. The highest accumulation for the week was recorded at 4.42” in Brooks County.
Records/Extremes:
- November 19 - Wichita County - 1.0 inch hail was reported in Electra, Texas.
