College Station Monthly Summary: April 2013

April ranged from nearly hot to definitely cold, with cold fronts dictating much of the weather across the state. Due to these fronts, temperatures were below normal for the month with average temperatures roughly two degrees below normal. Unfortunately, precipitation was below normal as well, continuing the downward trend into drought conditions. The majority of the rainfall that fell on the city occurred on April 2nd when a mid-level system moved over the area and fed off of warm, moist southerly winds to bring three quarters of an inch of rain, nearly half of the 1.65 inches of rainfall for the month. The drought remained within the bounds of severe drought classification for the month, but if the deficit in rainfall continues more severe levels of drought will need to be anticipated.
