College Station Monthly Summary: August 1998

Finally, after 30 consecutive days where the maximum temperature in College Station reached 100°F or higher, the mercury was only able to rise to 99°F and then to a relatively cool 88°F for the days of August 5th and 6th respectively. Once the extreme heat wave broke on the 6th, the temperatures for the Brazos Valley were only able to reach the century mark six other times throughout the month of August. Another climate variable that made a change for the better was precipitation. August was the first month since February to bring above normal precipitation to the water starved residents of Bryan/College Station. The 3.83" of rain that fell over the eleven precipitation days were 1.41" above the normal precipitation for the month of August. Despite the fact that August was somewhat of a moist month, our annual precipitation total is still around 7" below normal.
