College Station Monthly Summary: August 2000

Extreme heat and drought conditions continued through the month of August for the Bryan/College Station area. Five maximum temperature records were set or tied, and the 109°F recorded on the 31st set an all-time August record. The previous all-time record was 108°F set on August 16th, 1951, the first month observations were recorded at Easterwood Field. The average maximum monthly temperature was 101.3°F, which is 6.5°F above normal. However, the average minimum temperature was 1.5°F below normal, indicating that August was a very dry month. In fact, Easterwood Airport recorded only 0.22" of rainfall during the month, well below the normal precipitation of 2.42". This increased the year-to-date rainfall deficit to 7.53".
