College Station Monthly Summary: August 2002

The month of August was cooler than normal in the College Station area this year. At Easterwood Airport, only 2 days were reported to have high temperatures of 100°F or more. August is usually the hottest month of the year for College Station, and obviously this year was an exception. The month as a whole was relatively dry until the 15th, when 3.47" of rain fell as the result of a low pressure system in a 24-hour period. With the very small amount of additional rainfall previously recorded, that brought the precipitation total to 3.62" for the month of August. The precipitation total for the month exceeded the normal monthly reading of 2.63" by 0.99". Although the College Station area has been receiving more than adequate rainfall in the past months, the rain deficit still stands at 6.41" for the year. With September anticipated expected to have equally likely chances of experiencing near, below, or above normal rainfall, only time will tell if the catch up game will end in success for the year.
