College Station Monthly Summary: August 2003

High temperature in the month of August were cooler than normal, with the exception of the 7th and 8th, when temperatures reached 103°F. Residents of College Station who don’t like extreme heat have lucked out so far this summer, as the century mark has only been reached twice during the summer season to date. This month was dry for the most part until the 11th, when 0.73" of precipitation fell as a result of a frontal system that made its way across Texas triggering precipitation in its wake. Temperatures rebounded from rain-cooled air on the 11th, and remained in the mid to upper 90s until the next precipitation event on the 21st. A stray sea-breeze shower trekked toward the northwest and stalled over College Station, dumping 2.12" of rain on the city in a matter of a few hours. The sea-breeze phenomenon contributed to almost half of the precipitation received for the month of August. The latter half of the month was quite average with high temperatures in the upper 90s and lows in the middle 70s. Dry conditions persisted until the end of the month when 1.48" of precipitation fell as a result of the remnants of Tropical Storm Grace.
