College Station Monthly Summary: December 2001
Above normal temperatures were prevalent during the first part of the month with Easterwood Airport recording mean temperatures up to 19°F above normal; however the latter part of the month saw mean temperatures below normal. The majority of precipitation fell during the first half of the month as a few weak disturbances passed through the area. The total monthly precipitation was greater than normal with 3.55", and annual rainfall was also above normal totaling 45.51", which is 6.43" above normal. The greatest 24-hour rainfall for the month fell on the 11th-12th with exactly an inch of precipitation, which was associated with a warm front followed by a cold front that helped to moderate temperatures. The cool air was short lived, when temperatures rose significantly, and then modified following a cold front. A few other cold fronts passed through the area during the latter half of the month, helping to keep temperatures colder than normal, but no precipitation was reported at the airport. However, these cool temperatures helped to make College Station feel a lot like Christmas.
