College Station Monthly Summary: February 2001

The Brazos Valley experienced a return to above-average temperatures during the month of February with a mean monthly temperature of 56.8°F (4.4°F above average). Even with higher temperatures, however, only one record was broken or tied (highest minimum tied on the 14th). Unlike the temperatures, the monthly precipitation recorded at Easterwood was below-average. Only 1.57" of precipitation fell during February, 1.05" below average, increasing the year-to-date moisture deficit to 1.26". February began with mild temperatures which gradually warmed to a peak of 76°F on the 8th. On the 9th, a Pacific cold front moved through the area, producing rain showers and dropping high temperatures into the 40s. Another series of fronts moved just north of the area during the next few days, triggering scattered precipitation into the middle of the month. A weak cold front moved through on the 16th and dropped high temperatures into the 50s on the 17th. This front also triggered the maximum 24-hour precipitation total for the month (0.65" on the 16th). Maximum temperatures quickly rebounded, however, and reached a relatively warm high of 81°F on the 24th. On the 28th, an Arctic cold front moved through the region, dramatically dropping temperatures throughout the day.
