College Station Monthly Summary: January 2004

The month of January in the Brazos Valley was one of temperature extremes. A high temperature of 77°F was reported on the 3rd, and a low temperature of 28°F on the 6th, and 27th. This roller coaster of temperatures was contributed to numerous cold front systems sweeping through the state. On the 5th, an arctic cold front that passed through the Brazos Valley dropped high temperatures more than 20°F from the previous day. A moderating trend continued through mid month until a second cold front moved through on the 17th. Overall, there was 6 consecutive days of measurable precipitation. Numerous low pressure disturbances moved across the state, with a particularly potent low moving into the area on the 24th. At Easterwood Airport, a total of 2.29" of rain fell on the 24th, and other areas in Texas also received copious amounts of rainfall. The month of January ended with a precipitation total of 4.54", which was 1.22" above normal, and on a cooler note.
