College Station Monthly Summary: July 1998
The tremendous heat continued across the Brazos Valley as multiple records were broken - not particularly the daily temperature records, but the number of days above threshold values and the monthly temperature in general were the hot topics for July. College Station observed its warmest July on record with a monthly mean temperature of 88.7°F, breaking the previous record of 87.9°F set only two years ago. Also, 28 days observed temperatures which matched or exceeded 100°F, not only setting a record for July, but for any month, beating the total of 27 days which was observed in August of 1951 (the July record was eclipsed by 4 days). Amidst all of the attention of the maximum temperature departures from normal, rain was still sparse over the area. The monthly total of 0.73" continued to disappoint residents as the annual total now stands at 8.52" below normal, even after a wet January, February, and March.
