College Station Monthly Summary: July 2000

After an average June, the Brazos Valley experienced a return to above-normal temperatures. The average monthly temperature for July was 2.3°F above normal, even though the average minimum temperature was 1.4°F below normal. July was also extremely dry, as no measurable precipitation was recorded at Easterwood Field for the month. As a result, the year-to-date precipitation deficit is now up to 5.83" as July was fairly uneventful with only one front reaching the outskirts of the region. On the 30th and 31st, a stationary front north of Bryan/College Station triggered scattered showers in the area. However, only a trace of rain was recorded at Easterwood Field on these two days. Maximum temperatures reached into the upper 90s and lower 100s for the majority of the month. For twelve consecutive days, from the 12th to the 23rd, temperatures exceeded the 100°F-mark, with six maximum temperature records either tied or broken during this span.
