College Station Monthly Summary: July 2001

July temperatures in the Brazos Valley were above normal, except for the beginning of the month. The first 100°F temperatures of the year was on the 20th and this heat lasted six days until moisture and more unstable conditions came into the area. July was drier than normal with Easterwood Field receiving 1.69" of rain, which is 0.60" below normal. A high amplitude ridge was parked over the central part of Texas, which did not allow for the development of showers. As the high pressure ridge moved toward New Mexico on the 26th and 27th, afternoon showers were able to develop. Gulf moisture was able to reach Bryan/College Station at the beginning of the month, which enabled some afternoon showers to form and aided in moderating temperatures. When the ridge moved over Central Texas on the 2nd, it helped to stabilize the upper levels resulting in no thunderstorm formation.
