College Station Monthly Summary: June 2002

The beginning of the month was warm, with average temperatures 2-9°F above normal. The middle to latter part of June had average temperatures near or slightly below normal. Several near records were reported during the month, though no maximum or minimum temperatures were set. The end of the month saw an uncharacteristic weather pattern, which brought much needed rain to wide areas of the upper coast, and portions of the South Central and East Texas regions. This was caused by a tropical insurgence of moisture northward from the southern Gulf of Mexico. Even with this much needed rain, most of the state is still experiencing drought conditions. This weather event is providing short-term relief for the drought-stricken areas of Texas.
