College Station Monthly Summary: June 2005

The month of June has been very hot and dry for the Brazos Valley as an upper-level high pressure system built in over the state and created a very inactive weather pattern, with most fronts stalling around the Red River. The southerly winds have brought in moisture from the Gulf of Mexico, creating very humid conditions but not enough to create showers. Temperatures have been settled above average all but two days of the month and the precipitation totals are very low. The monthly rainfall total was 0.45", compared to the normal of 3.79" and last year’s total of 11.75", and all but 0.08" came on the first day of the month. The rainfall deficit of 3.60" is almost entirely caused by the month of June, which was 3.34" below normal. All but one day in the month recorded highs over 90°F, but none reached the century mark. The month finished with high temperatures 2.7°F above normal and low temperatures 1.8°F above normal.
