College Station Monthly Summary: June 2009

June was a record setting month for College Station. On average, College Station experiences 10 days per year of 100°F-plus temperatures; during June, 11 days of 100°F or more were recorded, including 10 consecutive days from the 20th-29th, including 4 days with temperatures of at least 105 degrees. Numerous daily records were broken, yet the record monthly high of 107°F was not reached. There were also few days with no near record temperatures; a near record or record temperature was reported practically every day in the last two-thirds of the month. Low minimum temperatures at the beginning of the month kept the average monthly minimum temperature from reaching an extremely abnormal level; however, the average monthly maximum temperature was nearly 6°F higher than normal. Precipitation was nonexistent throughout the month, when only a trace of rain was recorded on 3 days of the month. This brings the deficit to over 6 and-a-half inches for the year and has left the city dried out from its wetter spring days. Except for the first part of the month, average temperatures were nowhere to be found, though the city felt a slight cool down on the last day of the month. Hot, dry weather is expected to continue through July and August.
