College Station Monthly Summary: March 2001

The average monthly temperature (54.8°F) was 5.5°F below normal in the Brazos Valley for the month of March. This was also the wettest March at Easterwood Field, breaking the previous record of 6.07" in 1980 and bringing the year-to-date total to 10.10", which is 2.25" above normal. Rainfall was fairly evenly distributed throughout the month with 15 days experiencing measurable precipitation. A low pressure system lingering from the end of February dropped 2.19" of rain over the first three days of March and brought slightly cooler temperatures for the next few days. High pressure dominated the region until the middle of the month, when two consecutive low pressure systems brought more moisture and warmer temperatures on the 8th and the 11th. The warmest temperature registered this month was 80°F on the 12th. A cold front from the 27th to the 30th brought 1.38" of precipitation and dropped temperatures down to more than 10°F below normal.
