College Station Monthly Summary: March 2014

Keeping with tradition set by January and February, March remained substantially colder and dryer than normal. The month started out warm, but a powerful cold front pushed through on the 2nd dropping temperatures down into the 20s overnight. Throughout the 3rd, the temperature never climbed above freezing, and showers earlier in the morning quickly turned into ice creating difficult travel situations especially to the south where precipitation was heavier. Most of the rain for the month came on the 8th with steady rains ahead of and behind another cold front. By the end of the month temperatures started to climb back towards normal as spring began to take over and cold fronts became less powerful. Drought conditions remained mostly stable throughout the month, but conditions are expected to continue to worsen if the rains stay away next month.
