College Station Monthly Summary: May 2001

This month, the Brazos Valley experienced warmer temperatures as well as much needed precipitation. The average temperature of 77.5°F was 3°F above normal with 11 days over 90°F. Rainfall for the month was average, with 4.81", leaving a 0.80" year-to-date deficit. New low temperature records were set on the 22nd and 23rd, at 53°F each day. The beginning of the month saw a stationary front over the panhandle, which became a slow moving cold front. This contributed to the majority of the rainfall for the month, 3.63" of the 4.90" of May rainfall. Following this system, a second cold front entered the region on the 12th, which brought some light rain to the area. Warm weather prevailed for the next several days until a strong cold front roared through on the 22nd bringing some rainfall and unseasonably cool temperatures. The remainder of the month saw warmer and record breaking temperatures to the region.
