College Station Monthly Summary: May 2006

This May proved to be very dry as the storms that normally affect the area in May were held off by a very strong ridge and the precipitation for the month is much less than normal. May is normally the wettest month in the Bryan/College station area, with a normal total of 5.05", but this May only 2.65" fell during the month, only 52 percent of the normal total. However, thanks to the wet March and April, the annual total rainfall is only 0.56" below normal. Almost half of the month's total rainfall fell on the 6th, with a daily total of 1.22". No precipitation was reported between the 15th and the 28th and temperatures climbed into the middle 90s with temperatures for the month 1.4°F above normal. A record high was tied on the 19th with a temperature of 94°F. Overall, there were 13 days where the temperature was 90°F or higher, 7 more days than the normal total of 6 days. Some relief to the hot, dry weather came at the end of the month as an upper-level trough combined with the moist atmosphere and produced light showers and cloudy conditions during the last 3 days of the month.
