College Station Monthly Summary: October 2008

October 2008 brought College Station the cool down it has been looking for since late spring. Daily maximum and minimum temperatures were about average at the beginning of the month. The first cool front arrived on the 7th, cooling nighttime temperatures to a few degrees below average, while daytime temperatures remained about average. Yet, any cool air brought by this front was quickly warmed and the city saw 5 consecutive days of significantly warmer than average temperatures. However, another cold front arrived and cooled temperatures down slightly. A few other cold fronts arrived throughout the latter portions of the month, which cooled temperatures, especially minimum temperatures, down significantly. Note that four near record low minimum temperatures occurred in late October, though no records of any kind were broken this month. Now, precipitation events in October were few and relatively weak, with the city receiving slightly more than a third of the normal October precipitation. The vast majority of rainfall was associated with the first 2 fronts that pushed through the area. Thus the deficit grows and leaves the last half of 2008 quite dry.
