College Station Monthly Summary: October 2013

College Station ended up at just about normal for temperatures this month, and would have been normal as well in precipitation had it not been for the soaking that occurred on the 13th. An upper level low, a weak frontal boundary, and southerly flow set the stage for heavy rainfall across all of Texas, and College Station benefited from that setup. The storms that developed did become severe across the Brazos Valley, and when the initial line of storms moved in early in the morning, over an inch of rain was falling per hour. Temperatures were kept at bay this month due to stronger cold fronts that dipped temperatures down to their lowest values since early May. The good amount of precipitation this month allowed for improvement in drought conditions across the Valley. Both Robertson and Madison Counties officially left drought conditions throughout the month, while Brazos County is barely hanging on to Moderate drought status.
